I have a very nice 22 y/o mare for sale. I bought her 2 years ago for my daughter but she is not interested and I would like to see someone appreciate her. She was a previous lesson horse and "husband safe" horse for the woman I bought her from.
The bad:
*She cribs-right now she is out on 200 acres and is very happy and NOT cribbing. When I put her up in the smaller pasture so I can feed her better she does crib or really wind-suck.
*Right now she is fat on grass but if you don't have a lot of grass you will have to supplement her with PELLETED senior feed. She has very worn teeth from years of cribbing.
*Just hay in the winter doesn't do it for you-you have to supplement with senior feed.
*Her right rear hock seems to dip down like it's a little weak but I have seen her run and kick up her heels just this week. She NEVER seems lame but I would think because of this a light rider and light work would be best for her.
*She cycles but her last two pregnancies she had to be ultrasounded. I don't breed horses so I'm not up on all that but sounds expensive-she's older not a good broodmare prospect. She would be GREAT to babysit young ones though. I had a mini mare that I think she thought was a foal and she would share her food and totally let her push her around.
THE GOOD (and there's alot)
This is a very gentle, well mannered mare.
She ties.
Perfect for the farrier.
Doesn't feel like she has to push every other horse around in the pasture (she WILL be first in line for feed though)
She loads well-she has not been trailered much since I've had her and it's been in a stock trailer-she does fine.
I was told she was a former show horse and that she was shown in halter and pleasure classes.
She likes attention and she's not hard to catch.
She's not pushy.
She's not mean to other farm type animals or dogs.
She has not kicked, bitten, reared or bucked since I've had her.
Can be ridden in a halter and I would suggest that or a bitless bridle due to her teeth.
I think this mare would be good for a light rider that just wants to hack around on the farm or light trail riding. She is not going to be your next playday horse. She is in pasture condition and not ridden since last year. I would hate to see her sold to someone that would stick her in a stall and put a cribbing collar on her. She's happy in the pasture.
Price is $500-she is not free and I don't need any trades of any kind.
